New monthly flamenco nights at The Cobblestone

Starting in January 2010, Peña Flamenca El Indalo and visiting Spanish artist Felipe de Algeciras will present monthly flamenco events aimed at educating and entertaining a broad audience.

Continuing their collaboration with internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer Felipe de Algeciras, Peña Flamenca El Indalo are hosting a series of monthly rhythm and clapping workshops, each of which will be followed by an evening of dance and music performances.

The first of these events will be held on Friday 15 January in The Cobblestone Bar, Smithfield, which will become the home for these monthly gatherings by the Spanish community and international aficionados.

Hand clapping as rhythmic accompaniment is perhaps one of the most distinctive sounds in flamenco. In the rhythm & clapping workshop, Felipe will provide an introduction to the different flamenco rhythms and will teach the basic clapping patterns for each rhythm. He will be accompanied on guitar and cajón by Lucas González. This workshop is open to all members of the public, no dance or music experience is required. It runs from 7:00pm to 8:30pm and costs €15.

Felipe and guests will take to the stage from 9:00pm to kick off a lively Spanish evening of flamenco and sevillanas. Entrance costs just €12.

Access to both the workshop and the performances is at the special price of €20. All prices include VAT, and discounts are available for students and the unemployed.
