Discover the sound of flamenco in Dublin

Peña Flamenca El Indalo continue their series of monthly professional flamenco events aimed at educating and entertaining a broad audience.

Following on from the success of their initiative started in late 2009, Peña Flamenca El Indalo will present on Friday 19 February at The Cobblestone, Smithfield, the next in their series of monthly rhythm and clapping workshops, followed by dance and music performances from professional Spanish and international artists.

Flamenco has evolved many different musical forms, each with its own distinct rhythm. In recent years, there has been a great deal of interest in learning more about these forms, not only from musicians but from the general public. A greater understanding of flamenco leads to a richer appreciation of this art form and Spanish dancer and choreographer Felipe de Algeciras brings with him the fundamental knowledge for the understanding of all flamenco rhythms.

The workshop will focus on a number of different palos flamencos, explaining the rhythmic structure of each and introducing basic clapping patterns to accompany them. Students will interact with the live guitar and cajón of guitarist and composer Lucas González and the astonishing dancing of Felipe de Algeciras.

Musicians, dancers, singers and members of the public interested in developing their knowledge of flamenco are all invited to join the workshop from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Admission is €15.

The workshop will be followed by live performances from Felipe de Algeciras, Lucas González and special guests. Doors open at 9:00pm and admission is €12.

Admission to both the workshop and the show is at the special price of €20.

All prices include VAT, and discounts are available for peña members, students and the unemployed.

Peña Flamenca El Indalo are very pleased to announce that in March the scope of the workshop will be expanded to provide an introduction to flamenco singing with acclaimed Spanish singer Olayo Jiménez.
