Nathalie Moyano González
Director
Born in Southern France to Andalusian parents, Natalia is a translator & interpreter by profession and flamenco aficionado by heritage. Growing up with her father singing flamenco at home, she studied ballet from the age of 6 and learned other forms of dance, including flamenco for a brief period just before relocating to Ireland for work in 2002.
Against all odds, it's in Dublin and Belfast that Natalia pursued flamenco, joining various dance classes until, in October 2005, she met Spanish dancer and choreographer Felipe de Algeciras who taught her flamenco puro and became her mentor. With his support, Natalia co-founded an amateur flamenco dance group, Sólo Flamenco, and volunteered for two years, teaching beginners, performing at numerous festivals and gigs, and organising monthly workshops with Spanish artists. By doing so, not only did she facilitate her own training, but also gave dancers in Dublin the opportunity to study with established flamenco professionals.
This attitude of bringing flamenco to a wider audience would define her involvement in the Irish flamenco scene in the years to come.
July 2009 marked a decisive turn when Natalia co-founded Peña Flamenca El Indalo, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of flamenco in Ireland through a programme of entertainment and education.
From the very beginning, Natalia has been keen to involve Spanish and Irish institutions in the peña's activities. She has made a number of key contacts with artists and professionals working in flamenco in Spain, and has also given interviews to various local papers and the national radio both in Spain and Ireland.
Although Natalia teaches and performs on a regular basis, in addition to pursuing her own training, she is keen to downplay these activities in favour of promoting professionals, seeing her most valuable role to be that of liaison and facilitator, bringing artists and audiences together to share in their passion for flamenco.
